Celtic V Kilmarnock - recent stats
Weekly round-upPosted by Martyn Sat, October 31, 2009 13:25:18Despite the problems Celtic have faced at home this season this match match has home win written all over it. Kilmarnock's record at Celtic Park in recent years is extremely poor and whilst Celtic haven't been scoring at home, the side's domestic away record this season shows that the potential is there to pull away from the chasing pack.
One notable absence this season has been Shunsuke Nakamura, and Kilmarnock know all about him, and his goals. Naka was Celtic's top scorer against Killie under Gordon Strachan with 7 goals. The last time the sides met at Celtic Park however, it was Cillian Sheridan who rattled in a double in a 3-0 win to wrap up an easy three points for Celtic.
At the moment Celtic's home record in the SPL stands at Won 2, Drew 2, and clearly the fans expect better, yet away from home 4 wins from 5 is a good start, especially given that Celtic's away form in the past couple of years has plummetted. So the signs are there and hopefully the team can get one or two players on goalscoring form, because if they do there is no doubt that they can open up a healthy gap on the rest of the SPL.
The referee today is Willie Collum, he takes charge of his 8th Celtic match.
Elsewhere, Hibs will look to climb above Rangers today by picking up three points at home to Aberdeen. Dundee Utd also have the opportunity to do the same tomorrow against Rangers at Tannadice. This weekend could be a great opportunity to score a few goals, pick up maximum points and start to open up a healthy gap over the team in 2nd place, whoever that may be on Sunday night.
